Description
M-1 CANVAS HOLSTER FOR THE MODEL 1911 COLT PISTOL. These holsters were developed at Rock Island Arsenal in 1932 and are referenced in the book " U.S. MILITARY HOLSTERS AND RELATED ACCOUTREMENTS" by Edward Scott Meadows. The holsters were made at the request of Capt. Julian Hatcher. Trials were held and another batch of holsters made with improvements. This holster is from the second lot. It has the US on the flap indicating manufacture after Jan. 1934. This holster is made from double thickness canvas with a green edging. The flap is secured with a "lift the dot" fastener. Flap is marked inside " R.I.A." and has a partly legible inked soldier serial number. The belt hook is mounted in green webbing. The tip of the holster has three grommets to accept a tie down thong end serve as a drain hole. The holster is mounted on a Model 1912 MILLS web pistol belt. the belt also carries a two pocket WW1 mag. pouch marked "L.C.C.& CO. 1918". There is a first aid pouch marked "R.I.A. 1918" which holds a sealed "CARLISLE" first aid packet. CONDITION: The holster is in very good condition showing very light wear and scattered small spots of staining. Stitching is tight and markings are legible. The belt and other components are in very good condition with only light wear. PROVENANCE: The Collection of Edward Scott Meadows. (02-22141/RW). $500-800.
