East Asia, Japan, Edo to early Meiji period, ca. late 18th to 19th century CE. A large Shigaraki stoneware vase with a textured and pleasantly tactile surface - a high-temperature firing process contributes to the distinctive appearance. Shigaraki is a traditional style of Japanese ceramics that originated in the Shigaraki region of Shiga Prefecture and dates back over 1,200 years. Shigaraki often embodies the aesthetic principles of wabi-sabi, which values simplicity, imperfection, and natural beauty. Size: 12" Diameter x 15" H (30.5 cm x 38.1 cm)
